Skipping over the border

Total trip mileage 655
Mileage today 135

We got up this morning in Dinant and it was chucking it down. We sat in the room for an hour or so praying to the weather gods but I think old Jupiter (apparently the Roman god of weather) has figured out I am an agnostic and decided he was not for doing us any favours. I bit the bullet and the rain subsided enough for me to load the bike.

We skirted the Arden’s and traveled some amazing roads. There had been quite a bit of flooding and at one point we had to drive through what seemed like a ford.

I actually cleaned her while she was sat here. That turned out to be a complete waste of time. Lovely though isn’t she.

By about 60 miles into our journey the rain had stopped and we were still wearing our waterproofs so we pulled over in a place called Olly and popped in to Les Terrasses du Warcan for a coffee. Turns out it’s was a bit of a posh restaurant and they would not do just a coffee unless it was with a meal….oh well if you insist.

Starting to look a little dirty

We also stopped off to look at some war memorials in Vurdun.

What a fantastic night in Thiacoute-Reginieville. We arrived late ish at our digs but our hosts were simply fantastic  and totally fascinating. They were a retired couple in their 70’s, did not speak a word of English and were just the kindest people. They drove us to the local supermarché because it was about to close and was too far to walk and then fed us and gave us whisky and wine. They let us put the Mighty Wing in their garage which was reassuring. The old gent’s father and grandad served in the great wars and he proceeded to give us a history lesson using old maps and photos. He was captain of the local rifle club and was incredibly patient as we practiced our pigeon French on him.

Old armement collection on the landing

Spready cheese that we took a photo off because it was really really nice .

A map of the advancements made by the French, British and Americans in the First World War

Lovely to meet such nice people through AirB&B. I wish their was an option to give 6 stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
