Run to the Rhine

Another fantastic find with our digs last night.

I’m not going to lie, we had quite a bit to drink. Deb polished off a bottle of Pinot Noir and I discovered the first place we had visited in France that serves Picon Beer. If you have not tried it I would highly recommend it. It’s an orange liquor that complements beer. Sounds terrible but it’s lovely and I will be purchasing a bottle when I get home. The digs were part of a family run restaurant, they had a wood fired pizza oven inside which we sampled and then Deb had the biggest profiteroles you have ever seen and I had some kind of national ice cream thing that I could not pronounce then so have no chance of remembering it now.

The pizza oven

Deb (after finishing a bottle of wine) tried on the clogs and have a clog dance demonstration. Very impressive.

On the way to the Rhine valley we took a wrong turn and ended up in St Julian where a disused train line was being used for hand carts. There were families after families, each had a number  on them and we counted one numbered 65 so there was a fair few of these things. Great idea.

There was a guy watering his roof for some reason and took great pleasure in turning the hose pipe on the hand carts as they went past, oh how we laughed

As we approached St. Goar  Deb made the mistake of ignoring a ‘Road Closed’ sign. I know what your thinking ‘you were diving Rob’ a mere technicality’. We rode down a steep road for about a mile only to find they weren’t joking, it was actually closed. Now this was a problem, the road was narrow and very steep and the Mighty Wing was very heavy and very long. Deb, wearing helmet and motorcycle gear set off to reconnoiter the ‘closure’. “It’s ok, they have just took the surface of the road off and it’s a bit rockey”. So I used the sheer weight of the Mighty Wing to move the road barrier out of the way and did some off roading. That was
