Beer Chocolate and Boats

Total mileage for trip 414
Todays mileage 0

Day spent in Brugge sampling waffles, beer, chocolate and people watching, perfect way to spend a hot, 28c, day.

They were all nice but I followed up with a pint of St Bernardus which should tell you which was the best.

We walked and then drank, walked and then eat, did some more walking followed by some more drinking and popped into a few tourist hotspots (see below). This was followed with some walking, drinking and eating.
We popped into the ‘Basilica of the Holy Blood’ and queued to see christs blood (no photos and we were not allowed and it seemed a little wrong anyway although it did not seem to stop some people).

At one drinking hole we got chatting to a couple of locals. One of them, Frederik, was 84 years old sitting drinking wine and watching the world go by. Initially he seemed like a lovely old gentleman who wanted to share the history of his home town but we quickly realised he wanted us to adopt him and we had to make our excuses and leave, still feel bad about it now but we have 4 cats, we just don’t have room for a little old man as well.

St Salvatorkathedreel

Belgian waffles

Province Court (renovated 4 years ago)

River boat tour (Bakkersrel)

Random tourists who had the cheek to jump on our boat!!!

The guillotiné bridge (every one ducked when they heard its name)

If you have seen the film ‘in Bruges’ this is the hotel Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleason stayed in.

‘Princely Beguinage Ten Wijngaarde’ a commune for lay women who have sworn a vow of chastity. Saying nothing as will probably cause offence.

Fantastic place, fantastic day. Back on the bike tomorrow when we ride to Dinant, can’t wait
