And so the challenge of packing everything up to get back into the Mightly Wing with the tiny luggage space was underway.

I popped out to get a couple of coffees from McDonalds only to discover the don’t open until 10. 10? WTF. So we are hitting the road without a caffeine hit, this could get messy,



In the underground car park Deb ran off to ask a parking attendant on a push bike how we pay. Turns out he wasn’t a parking attendant but a policemen who was ‘searching for a criminal’ and didn’t appreciate the interruption. Anyway, we figured it out and headed out of Brugge but not before taking a wrong turn riding down a cycle path much to the annoyance of some cyclists….chill people chill.

We took a slowish route down towards Dinant. Flipping ek it’s hot. Says 30c (33c for some of the day) but feels warmer.
I have been told to write that this is not a picture of Deb’s trotter, merely a google image 😜🦶


Now this boat lift is quite a feet of engineering. Strépy-Thieu Boat lift.






Although I do feel the engineers may have missed the principal that simple is always best.









See those raised white curb stones? The ones that are painted white to make them really visible ? Well Deb didn’t, not only did she manage to trip on one she managed to land on one as well in front of some people who work here. ‘ êtes-vous ok’


We stopped at a Liddle on the way down to buy water, not to drink but to pour on ourselves it was so hot.


Dinant, we made it. What a view. The owner of our AirB&B is definitely a bit of a character judging by the décore. 







Tomorrow we plan on hiring a boat, I have already picked ours out it’s called ‘Dinant’

Ypee we are off to Ypres

Total mileage - 1475 Todays mileage -  Tolls paid so far £0 So, the plan today (in case it was not clear in the title) is to head to Ypres which is about 220km to the east of our digs last night in Marche-en-Famen. We basically had the upstairs of the building below and it was really nice. AirB&B definitely winning over booking.com Today we are going to use motorways. Yes, I know, very dull but we really need to get there and have a look around. Currently stopped at a services enjoying an expresso double. The lady behind the counter has the memory span of a goldfish, she places a little chocolate to go with the coffee on the counter, turns around to make the coffee, I take the chocolate (it is mine) and when she turns back around she has forgeten she put the chocolate on the counter and so I get another one. The kitchen Sink

 ‘5kg! What do you mean I can only put 5kg on the rack?’ and so it began - The quest to compress a middle aged couples clothes, toiletries, gadgets and bike gear onto a 2024 Honda Goldwing to facilitate a two week trip to the Black Forest in Germany and back. On the face of it the 2024 Goldwing is big.....very big. It weights around 400 Kg and is the length of a football pitch. Its luggage capacity however is tiny....very tiny. Think of the Doctors Tardis in reverse, you open the lids to the panniers and the top box expecting to be able to climb in but instead you are greeted by a Tupperware sandwich box set. We had the optional Honda rack fitted when purchasing the bike from Blackpool Honda but it only takes 5Kg meaning that we gradually reduced the size of the bag we were taking to try and hit the weight limit. Deb had to sacrifice the heated curlers, hairdryer, spare hair dryer, heated pillow, 2nd handbag and a bag of Tic-tac's. Rob went from two to one T-Shift and agreed to use...

3 countries, tanking it

Total trip  miles- quite a lot Miles today, more than yesterday but less than the first day 🤪 Tolls paid - still £0 Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium passed through today.  We left our digs in Klotten, or tried to, our host was the nicest man but boy could he talk. He came out while we loaded the bike and insisted on talking to us. I literally think he was still talking as we rode away. La Roche en Ardenne (Belgium) A shopfront is definitely one of the strangest places I have parked. Murlenbach (Germany). Everywhere in Germany seems to be closed all the time. Lichtemborn (Germany). This wooden cabin was attached to a petrol station where you could buy coffee and food and then take it here to eat. We had to all to ourselves and sheltered from the rain for about an hour.
